CHOPTA TUNGNATH CHANDRASHILA TREK

OVERVIEW

The Chopta Tungnath Chandrashila trek is set in the himalayas of Garhwal region of Uttarakhand.

The trek starts from Sari village, and the following trail takes us to a beautiful lake- Deoriatal, which gives perfect sightings for mountains of Choukhamba and Kedarnath- one of the prime pilgrim spots of Hindus. As you trek upwards from Chopta, you’ll encounter the sacred Tungnath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Situated at an altitude of 3,680 meters (12,073 feet), Tungnath is not only the highest Shiva temple in the world but also one of the Panch Kedar temples. The route to Tungnath is adorned with lush greenery and offers panoramic views of the surrounding peaks. One can enjoy a mix of panorama, tranquiltity and sprituality here.

As you walk on the Chopta Tungnath Chandrashila trek, you will pass through dense forests full of colorful rhododendron and oak trees, making the journey even more beautiful. Chopta to Tungnath temple trek is approximately 3.5 kms in distance.

After visiting Tungnath temple, you trek to the top of Chandrashila. The summit is at an altitude of 4000 meters . From there you get an incredible 360-degree view of some famous peaks like Nanda Devi and Trishul. On decent from Chandrshila peak one can hault at Tungnath temple , relax and meditate in the energy of the spritual vibe of the Tungnath temple surrounded by snow capped himalayan range.

Chopta Trek Brief itinerary

 Day 01: Rishikesh to Sari Village (190KM, 6-7 Hrs drive) & trek to Deoriatal Lake (2300m/ 3KM  Walk,1Hrs) and camp for the night.

 Day 02: Deoriatal Lake to Chopta Trek(2800m/14km walk/5-6hrs)

 Day 03: Chopta to Tungnath Trek  and then Tungnath temple to Chandrashila trek-   the summit(4000m, 5Km Trek, 4-5Hrs) and back to Chopta (7Km/6hrs)

 Day 04: Drive back from Chopta to Rishikesh (6-7hrs)

DETAILED ITINERARY – CHOPTA TUNGNATH CHANDRASHILA TREK

Day 01: RISHIKESH TO SARI (6-7hrs) & TREK TO DEORIATAL (2300m/ 1hrs):

Morning 6:30 report in our office and meet our trekking team, and then drive to Sari which takes about 7-8 hours. The drive is spectacular and along the Ganga, Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers. En-route visit to Devprayag. The historical town is situated on the confluence of river Alaknanda & Bhagirathi River which makes the holy Ganges. Reach Sari village and from here trek to the most beautiful Himalayan Lake Deoriatal. Arrive and camp near the lake. The rest of the day is to explore the area around this beautiful lake. After Dinner overnight stay in Tent at Deoriatal.

Day 02: DEORIATAL TO CHOPTA TREK (2800m/14km/5-6hrs):

In the morning, wake up with an excellent sunrise view on the snow covered Himalayan Peaks. After breakfast, the trek starts to Chopta. Its a gradual trek and the views are worth the effort. We pass through the dense forest and beautiful alpine meadows dotted with flowers. Arrive Chopta and camp at outskirts. Hot meals will be served shortly with overnight stay in tent.

Day 03: CHOPTA TO TUNGNATH TEMPLE – CHANDRASHILA SUMMIT TREK (4000m) AND BACK TO CHOPTA (7Km/6hrs):

Chopta Tungnath Chandrashila trek distance is approx 5 kms.Wake up very early morning to reach the summit on time to see the panoramic view of the high Himalayan peaks. The trek is mostly a gradual ascent through the dwarf rhododendron bushes. You can watch most of the prominent peaks of the Garhwal Himalayas from Chandrashila Top. Nanda Devi (7817Mtrs-the second highest peak of Indian Himalayas), Kedarnath, Trishul, Bandarpoonch etc are the prominent peaks visible from here. Explore the area and trek back to the camp at Chopta. Dinner and overnight stay in camp.

Day 04: DRIVE CHOPTA TO RISHIKESH (6-7hrs):

Morning after breakfast, we board our vehicle and drive back to Rishikesh. Tour ends upon arrival in Rishikesh.
