The Kedartal trek is a challenging and captivating high-altitude adventure located in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand, India. Kedartal trek begins from Gangotri which is famous for being the source of the holy ganges. Starting from Gangotri the route involves a steep rocky climb along the narrow Kedar Ganga gorge en route to Bhojkharak, 8 km away. From there it is 4 km to the next available camping site of Kedarkharak, and a further 5 km to Kedartal. The route passes through scenic Himalayan birch forests, but is made hazardous in places by falling rocks, high altitude and segments of steep ascent

The lake is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, and the water is crystal clear, reflecting the majestic mountains. It’s a place of serene beauty and tranquility. Kedartal lake is fed by the snowfall from  the towering peaks of Mt. Thalay Sagar (6,904 m), Meru (6,672 m), Bhrigupanth (6,772 m) and other surrounding peaks,

KEDARTAL TREK – DETAILED ITENARY

 

 Day 1- Rishikesh – Gangotri (10,052 ft) (248 km, 7-8 hrs drive)

Morning start drive towards one of the most revered places in Uttarakhand, Himalaya, The Gangotri Dham. Drive along the Tehri lake, breakfast and lunch on the way. Arrive in Gangotri, the base camp for Kedartal Trek. Evening visit to Gangotri temple and explore the holy town of Gangotri and its famous temple. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel.

Day 2- Gangotri – Bhoj Kharak (13,220 ft)

Start trekking from Gangotri to Bhoj Kharak, The trek is 7-8 km long and very unique. The Bhoj path is rocky and this is the only way to reach the forest. Kedar Ganga will remain on your left and there are an abundane of Bhojpatra trees on today’s trail. Trek through dense Bhojpatra forests and enjoy the scenic beauty of the region. Set up camp at Bhoj Kharak for the night, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3- Bhoj Kharak to Kedar Kharak (14,240 ft)

Trek to Kedar kharak begins with a steep climb at the start. Kedar Kharak is about 5 km from Bhoj Kharak campsite. Witness the flaura and fauna, breath taking views of Mt Thalay Sagar and other Himalayan peaks. Explore the surroundings and camp near the pristine Kedar kharak.

Day 4- Kedar Kharak to Kedartal (15,500 ft) and Back to Kedar Kharak (14,240 ft)

Spend a day visit to Kedartal. A stunning glacial lake surrounded by snow-capped peaks. Explore the area, enjoy photography, and soak in the serene atmosphere.

 Day 5- Kedar Kharak to Gangotri (10,052 ft)

Descend from Kedar Kharak to Gangotri. Reach Gangotri and dinner and overnight stay at hotel.

Day 6- Gangotri to Rishikesh

Drive back from Gangotri to Rishikesh
