OVERVIEW
Roopkund trek is a famous and sought after high-altitude trek that offers adventurers a unique blend of natural beauty, mystery, and cultural richness . The trek’s main attraction is the Roopkund Lake, a glacial lake situated at an elevation of around 16,000 feet (5,029 meters) , also known as the Skeleton Lake located near the base of two Himalayan peaks: Trishul (7,120 m) and Nanda Ghunti (6,310 m).
The lake is covered with ice for most of the year, with the best time to trek being in autumn (September to October). the area around the lake is uninhabited , surrounded by rock-strewn glaciers and snow-clad mountains.
This high-altitude glacial lake is famous for the ancient human skeletons found at its bottom hence the Roopkund Lake is also known as the ‘Mystery Lake’. Scientists believe these skeletons date back to around 9th century AD, adding a fascinating historical and mythological aspect to the trek. The human skeletal remains are visible at its bottom when the snow melts.
The Roopkund trek starts from Wan village . The route passes through the twin bugyals (meadows) of ali and bedni and picturesque villages of Wan and Didna. The trekking trail is both challenging and rewarding, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayan peaks, including Nanda Ghunti and Trishul, Choukhamba , Kedarnath, Neelkantha.
The Roopkund Trek is a challenging adventure as the lake is covered with ice for most of the year, best undertaken during the summer and autumn months when the weather is relatively stable. Trekkers should be prepared for steep ascents, high-altitude conditions, and ever-changing weather.

Day 4: Bhaguabasa Camp to Roopkund Lake and Junargali Pass, Return to Patar Nachauni Camp
