Char Dham Yatra – FAQs
The Char Dham Yatra is considered one of the most sacred pilgrimages in Hinduism and is often associated with attaining salvation (moksha). Every year, hundreds of thousands of devotees visit these holy shrines seeking blessings and spiritual purification.
It is called “Char Dham” because it represents four holy destinations believed to grant moksha (salvation).
Q3. What is the Char Dham Yatra?
It’s a holy pilgrimage in Uttarakhand visiting four sacred Hindu sites: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Devotees trek or drive there for blessings, usually from April/May to October/November when roads open.
Q4. When is the best time to do the yatra?
Go between May and June or September to October. Summers are pleasant, but monsoons (July-August) bring landslides. Temples close in winter due to heavy snow.
Q5. How long does the full yatra take?
About 9-10 days by road if you’re fit and start from Haridwar. Includes travel, darshan (temple visits), and rest stops. Heli services cut it to 4-5 days but cost more.
Q6. What should I pack for the trip?
Warm clothes (jackets, gloves—even in summer at high altitudes), raincoat, medicines, ID proof, water bottle, and sturdy shoes. Carry cash as ATMs are scarce. No heavy bags—keep it light.
Q7. Is it safe for beginners or families?
Yes, but prepare for high altitudes (up to 12,000 ft)—watch for sickness like headaches. Roads are winding; book registered guides/vehicles. Families go often, but kids/elderly need doctor checks first. Avoid if you have heart issues.

Delightful experiences of our clients - Reviews
Posted on Mihir KakrambeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My wife and I went for the Valley of Flowers trek with them at the end of August 2026. Our experience was very good in terms of management, friendliness and helpfulness of our guide (Manoj) and driver (Anil) and all the accommodations. We drove from Rishikesh to Govind ghat and took a local taxi to stay in Priya homestay in Pulna village. Excellent room and very close to start of the trek. Stayed in Priya hotel in Ghangariya. Good room. Excellent food. Went to Badrinath and stayed in Mana after ending the trek (excellent quaint little village near the India-China border) before driving back to Rishikesh. Our guide Manoj was young, friendly and very helpful (although a bit shy but opened up more in the latter part of the trek). He helped us with food, trekking gears like poles, ponchos etc. whenever needed. He and Anil were also open to our small requests to stop at scenic spots along the drive. Good song recommendations as well. Thanks all the team at Mapping the Himalayas for making our trek experience enjoyable! Cheers!Posted on Raúl Santos GarcíaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Magnífica experiencia a pesar de que el tiempo no nos ha acompañado. Had a great first experience with Mapping the Himalayas. Ankush guided us through Valley of flowers and Hemkund Sahib trek. Ankush kept us entertained with facts of Himalayas and the various floral species. Later, we stayed at the beautiful Mana village and had a peaceful Badrinath darshan. The stay and food arranged throughout the travel were quite satisfactory. Huge thanks to Anil ji and Sandeep ji for the safe drives. Looking forward to many more treks with Mapping the Himalayas!Posted on Vinayak SbTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This is the 3rd time i am going on a trek with Mapping the Himalayas. It was amazing as always. We did the valley of flowers and hemkund sahib trek this time. Our guide was Ankush. He planned the trip end to end. We stayed at luxury tents in Ghangaria. We were able to see the beautiful flower beds at Valley of flowers. Hemkund Sahib trek was challenging but fun too. Food was great along the trek as well. We finished off the trek with a stay at Mana village and a peaceful darshan at Badrinath temple. Amazing trip. Thank you Mapping the Himalayas!!Posted on Anitha ThaticherlaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Being 57 yrs,I doubted myself whether I can or not. But it was the emotional care of the group,my sister's encouragement, made me believe myself that I can. Finally it was successful and I entered into heaven which I never dreamt I will. No words to speak. It has to be experienced. In my words I can say that I went to heaven and came back live not after death but when I am alive.Posted on Trinh NhungTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Enjoyed the sunrise view, the trekking from Kunjapuri temple in nature and sound of the birds 😊 Just it was crowded at the waterfall. I like somewhere peaceful. The guide is good and on time when he picked up me. That's the plus 😊Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
