How difficult is Tungnath to Chandrashila trek
The total trek from Chopta to Chandrashila Summit is about 4.5 kms, the trek from Chopta to Tungnath temple is 3.5 kms, the path is clearly paved so whether it is seasoned trekkers or not so experienced trekkers can cover this trail without too much difficulty. The walk is through dense forests full of colorful rhododendron and oak trees, one can also occasionally spot the local national bird ‘monal’ on the trail, making the journey even more beautiful. During winters the whole landscape is covered with snow and one needs to be equipped to trek through snow.
Tungnath temple is highest Shiva temple in the world at an altitude of 3680 meters. The trek further up from Tungnath to the Chandrshila peak (4000 meters) is about 1.5 kms trek, which is a steep ascend, however the distance not being too big, one can reach to the top with not so much difficulty. Again the path is paved , and seasoned trekkers can climb more directly to the top.
The summit gives a stunning round the view of snow clad peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba and many others, its an exhilarating experience at the top. An early morning start gives an edge of experiencing the magical sunrise through the mighty Himalayan peaks.
