Best time for the Kuari Pass Trek depends on one’s ability & fitness to trek through snow and challenging weather condition at times during winters. The trek is rated as moderate to difficult adventure.The trek being 55 kms long definetly requires some fitness level, and it is advisable to carry snow gears while trekking during winters.
The trek can be done during winter season and non winter season as well except for the mosnsoon season when it can be risky.
- Early winter from (October to February): Winters being the more popular time, as the trail is likely to be covered in snow, creating a magical winter landscape. The trek is along the Nanda Devi Sanctuary providing stunning views of the Himalayan snow peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul and passes making it perfect for those looking for a classic winter trek. October is likely to be cold but not covered in snow, it will be early winters at this time of the year.
However during latter months it can get very cold, with temperatures dropping below freezing at higher altitudes. The trek is more long than hard , maximum altitude reaching around 4300 mts not making it very hard for trekkers.2. Spring to Early Summer (March to June): The weather is pleasant during this period, with clear skies and blooming rhododendron forests. The trail is not likely to be covered with snow and weather being more moderate makes the trek slightly easier while still offering magnificent views of the Himalayan peaks, small rivers and greener view of the meadows.
Both seasons offer their own experiences, but winter is more adventurous, while spring/summer is more comfortable for those new to trekking.
